If you exercise and eat well, but still cannot rid yourself of those unsightly bulges that have settled in your abdominals, hips, back, and thighs— CoolSculpting by Zeltiq® may be a fat reduction option for you. CoolSculpting is an innovative, non-surgical fat removal procedure that uses cryolipolysis, or fat freezing, to freeze the fat to help eliminate those hard to treat fat deposits. Using a unique FDA-cleared cooling technology, CoolSculpting can selectively target fat cells and expose them to freezing temperatures. Once the cells are frozen, they die and the body removes them through its natural cleansing system. Because fat cells are more susceptible to low temperatures than other types of cells, the Cool Sculpting technology does not damage the surrounding tissue. Over the course of a few months, patients will observe noticeable improvement as the body gradually flushes the fat cells out of the body. After two months, patients can expect to see dramatic results and, after four months, should begin to benefit from the full effect of the treatment. With proper lifestyle maintenance, CoolSculpting can provide long-lasting results.

Fraxel Laser
Fraxel, a minimally-invasive treatment, is a highly innovative and precise laser technology that can resurface and renew the skin. Extremely effective in treating stretch marks, surgical scars, and acne scars, Fraxel uses focused laser technology to safely deliver light energy to the treatment area. The light energy stimulates the production of natural collagen, a regenerative process that can markedly improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin. As new, healthier skin emerges to replace the dull or damaged outer layer, the skin becomes tighter, smoother and more radiant. Because Fraxel prompts the body’s own renewal process, the skin will continue to improve after treatment, typically taking 1-3 weeks to completely heal. An appointment takes between 15-45 minutes, depending on the condition of the skin and what is being treated. In general, multiple sessions are required to achieve optimal results. With no downtime required, regular activity can be resumed immediately after treatment. During your consultation, our Cosmetic Dermatologist can determine whether Fraxel laser resurfacing treatment is best for your skin type and can help you reach your aesthetic goals.

Laser Hair Removal
One of the most popular and commonly performed cosmetic procedures, laser hair removal can permanently remove unwanted hair from the face, underarms, arms, legs, bikini line, and other areas of the body. During a treatment, hair follicles, which are responsible for hair growth, are exposed to pulses of laser light, which destroys them. Because the laser can selectively target the area that grows hair, the surrounding skin does not suffer any damage when the laser light is emitted. For those considering laser hair removal, it is advised to minimize shaving, waxing, and plucking for about six weeks before undergoing treatment. The effectiveness of laser hair removal treatment can vary, depending on the color or hair and skin tone. Our Dermatologist uses the most advanced laser technology to maximize results. With state-of-the-art equipment, such as the preferred GentleMax laser system, treatments at Marina Dermatology can be calibrated for nearly all skin types.

Laser Leg Vein Removal
Varicose veins, bulging and twisted veins that can be found on the legs and ankles, can be both unsightly and painful. Although varicose veins do not always appear alongside spider veins—smaller, broken capillaries that are visible through the skin— the two types of damaged blood vessels are sometimes found in proximity. When found near each other, it may be possible that the varicose vein is acting as a “feeder” that contributes to the formation of the blue, purple, or red spider veins. A variety of treatments are available to remove leg veins. Laser treatment has been shown to be effective for the treatment of spider veins and smaller varicose veins. When laser light is pulsed to a spider vein, heat is produced, which causes the vein to collapse. Blood flow is restricted and, as a result, the vein eventually disappears. For spider veins, multiple laser treatments are usually necessary. In the case of that a varicose vein is acting as a feeder vein, endovenous laser treatment—a less painful option than ligation and stripping surgery—can close the vein off and relieve the symptoms associated with the diseased vein. Based on an examination of your legs, our Cosmetic Dermatologist at Marina Dermatology can determine the technique that will best address your leg veins.

Photodynamic Acne Therapy
Most of us have looked into the mirror as spotted an unwelcome pimple blemishing our face. However, if you are experiencing frequent or chronic outbreaks, the quest to bring the flare ups under control may be source of endless frustration. If this is the case, you are not alone. Active acne is the most common reason individuals seek out treatment from a Dermatologist. Fortunately, there are many treatments currently available that can produce results. One such treatment, photodynamic therapy (PDT), utilizes a topical drug that, when activated by light exposure, kills the bacteria that cause acne to form. During PDT treatment, our Dermatologist will apply Levulan, a light-sensitizing drug, onto the affected area. After an incubation period of about 40-60 minutes, during which the Levulan liquid is allowed to soak into the skin, a light is placed on the area being treated. The light activation stage lasts for about 15 minutes. PDT can help bring acne under control and prevent new lesions from forming. Because the effectiveness of any one treatment can vary from one individual to the next, it is important to have an expert examine your acne. At Marina Dermatology, our Doctor understands that any acne treatment needs to be personalized. To help you achieve a clearer complexion, our Doctor will incorporate the latest advances into any treatment plan.

Photodynamic Phototherapy for Rejuvenation
Years of exposure to the sun can leave its mark on the skin. Skin discolorations, also called age spots, liver spots, and sun spots, commonly emerge as we age, dulling the skin and making its overall tone less even. Photodynamic phototherapy, or PDT, is a versatile treatment that can improve the appearance of the skin. Effective in treating discolorations and actinic keratoses—rough, raised areas that can commonly affect people over 40—photodynamic phototherapy can reverse certain signs of aging due to exposure to ultraviolet rays. A non-invasive procedure, photodynamic phototherapy treatment causes little to no discomfort and can be done in an office visit in a little over an hour. During the treatment, a light-sensitizing liquid medication is placed on the skin and is left on for up to an hour so it can be absorbed by the skin. Once the liquid has soaked into the skin, a special light is placed over the treatment area to illuminate it. The light activates the medication, which eliminates the discolored and damaged skin cells. The result is a refreshed face. Multiple treatments may be necessary. To maximize results, our Dermatologist will determine how many PDT sessions are needed to renew your skin.

QuadraLASE Fractional CO2 Laser
For extensive skin rejuvenation, ‘fractional’ laser skin resurfacing can deliver impressive results with the fewer side effects and quicker healing time. The non-invasive QuadraLASE™ fractional CO2 laser is a powerful, state-of-the-art laser device that can safely erase fine lines, lighten skin discolorations, improve acne scars, and address a variety of imperfections of the skin. Rather than removing layers of skin, the QuadraLASE™ fractional CO2 laser works by treating only selected areas of the skin surface. With precision control, treatments can be specifically calibrated to the intensity needed to treat a particular concern. Because only a portion of the skin is exposed to the laser beam, patients experience greater comfort. After the treatment, patients can look forward to tighter skin and smoother texture. At Marina Dermatology, our Doctor will carefully evaluate your skin condition so that he can customize your QuadraLASE™ fractional CO2 laser treatment.

Tattoo Removal
If you have a tattoo that you no longer want, laser treatment can effectively erase the inked design on your body. The removal process is non-invasive and straight-forward. When the laser is directed at the tattooed area, the laser emits light energy that penetrates the skin and breaks up the pigmentation. Our Cosmetic Dermatologist, a specialist in laser treatments for a range of skin conditions, can remove unwanted tattoos using Marina Dermatology’s state-of-the-art laser devices. Using the Alex TriVantage laser system, our Doctor can address tattoos that have different ink colors. Black ink, which can absorb all laser wavelengths, is the most easily treated, whereas other colors require more specific wavelength settings. The number of treatment sessions needed to remove a tattoo depends on the complexity, extent of color, and size of the original design. With advanced technology and years of experience, our Doctor can eliminate traces of the undesired tattoo.

As we age, our bodies produce diminishing amounts of collagen, the substance that maintains the skin’s structure and elasticity. Ultherapy, also known as Ulthera, is a non-surgical skin tightening treatment, can give loose, sagging skin on the face and neck a lift. Utilizing a safe FDA-Cleared technology, Ulthera system emits ultrasound energy, which penetrates the layers of the skin and stimulates the body’s production of new collagen. By triggering the body’s own collagen-building and regenerative process, Ultherapy can give natural-looking results over time. As collagen is gradually replaced, the skin will become firmer and more tone. Moreover, the Ulthera system’s unique ultrasound imaging capacity can provide our Cosmetic Dermatologist with a comprehensive visualization of your tissue. Because of this accurate view of the skin, he can selectively treat the areas that need it most, optimizing your session and maximizing the outcome. Whether you want to give the eyebrow area a lift or improve chin and jaw line definition, Ultherapy is a non-surgical option for an effective restorative cosmetic treatment.

Vbeam Perfecta
Vbeam Perfecta, a pulsed dye laser, is a versatile device that is particularly powerful in treating vascular, pigmented and certain non-pigmented lesions. If you have visible skin imperfections that are related to defective blood vessels, such as broken capillaries and leg veins, rosacea, port wine stains and/or reddish raised scars, V Beam Perfecta may be an effective treatment option. During VBeam Perfecta session, laser light is emitted, which destroys blood vessels and reduces red pigmentation. Although patients may feel a mild heating sensation, most report little discomfort when treated. Because Vbeam Perfecta laser does not vaporize surface skin, the procedure poses few risks of complication and recovery time is minimal. Based on your consultation at Marina Dermatology, our Cosmetic Dermatologist will select the most appropriate technology for your specific skin condition or cosmetic concern!
