Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that provides skin rejuvenation without invasive surgery. It is commonly used on the face, hands, neck, and chest to improve a number of skin complaints while providing softer, smoother, fresher skin. Our Board Certified Dermatologist has been helping people in the Marina Del Rey area achieve more beautiful skin through microdermabrasion. His advanced training and experience in dermatology make him a top choice in microdermabrasion practitioners.

Microdermabrasion is a revitalizing and rejuvenating procedure that can treat the following skin conditions:

  • Fine lines
  • Mild wrinkles
  • Irregular pigmentation caused by sun damage (age spots)
  • Acne scars
  • Enlarged and clogged pores
  • Blackheads and whiteheads
  • Rough skin texture

In addition to improving these conditions, the skin will feel softer and smoother and have an improved tone and color. Microdermabrasion provides the best results when performed as a series of treatments. After the first treatment, the skin will appear smoother and healthier and improvements will continue to be seen after each treatment.

Microdermabrasion works by treating the very top level of the skin, known as the stratum corneum. This layer of skin consists entirely of dead skin cells and is home to many skin imperfections, including blemishes, irregular pigmentation spots, and fine lines. Many treatments utilize forms of microdermabrasion, including spa treatments and exfoliating scrubs, but microdermabrasion performed by a skin doctor will yield the most effective and dramatic results. During a microdermabrasion treatment at Marina Dermatology, tiny micro-crystals of aluminum oxide (corundum power) are used to gently remove the stratum corneum. Because the treatment does not penetrate past the surface layer of skin, it does affect the deeper layers of the skin, which would cause pain and could cause permanent damage. After the stratum corneum is removed, the lower skin layers respond by sending healthy cells to the surface of the skin to create a new, revitalized outer layer.

We offer microdermabrasion at both of our Los Angeles offices. Each treatment takes approximately 30 minutes to perform. Microdermabrasion is not typically painful, although some patients experience discomfort around sensitive areas, such as the nose and mouth. During the treatment, our skin Doctor will move a specialized tool across your skin. This tool shoots the tiny aluminum oxide crystals onto your skin and vacuums the used crystals and dead skins cells from your skin. The vacuum action of the tool also helps to pull impurities to the skin’s surface and allows our Doctor to work on small sections of the skin at a time. After the treatment, you will be able to resume normal activities immediately. Some patients feel tightness or dryness, which can be relieved with a moisturizer, as recommended by our skin Doctor. The skin may appear slightly red for the rest of the day, but severe redness is not typical.

Microdermabrasion can provide you with cleaner, smoother, and healthier skin after just a few treatment sessions. For the best results, we recommend that you undergo microdermabrasion treatments with a qualified Doctor, such as our doctor at Marina Dermatology.
