At Marina Dermatology, we offer our patients the latest non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatments. One such treatment, photodynamic phototherapy, is able to provide overall skin rejuvenation while correcting specific areas of sun damage on the face. This treatment is a great option for many of our Marina del Rey patients as it provides effective facial rejuvenation with no downtime and minimal risk of side effects. Our Cosmetic Dermatologist has used photodynamic phototherapy to treat a number of conditions that affect the skin. As such, he is an excellent choice for patients in the Los Angeles area who are considering any form of photodynamic light therapy.
Photodynamic phototherapy is able to improve the appearance of the skin in a number of ways. It is proven to effectively decrease the appearance of sun damage on the skin, including sun spots, age spots, and liver spots. It is also one of the leading treatments for actinic keratosis, a pre-cancerous skin condition that should be treated in order to avoid serious health repercussions. In addition to eliminating or diminishing specific areas of sun damage, photodynamic therapy works to reduce the size of skin pores, improve the appearance of acne scars, and control acne. In as few as two or three treatments, your skill will become clearer, smoother, and have improved tone and texture.
It is very easy to undergo photodynamic phototherapy at either of our LA offices. When you arrive, our Doctor will apply Levulan, a topical photosensitizing solution, to your skin. After allowing the solution to soak into your skin for up to one hour, our Doctor will then begin the light therapy treatment. You will sit in front of a blue light for a period of time, as determined by our dermatologist during your initial consultation. After this, your skin will be cleaned and you will be able to resume normal activities immediately. You may experience mild peeling, similar to that of sunburn, for two to seven days following the treatment. While rare, some patients experience swelling and redness, but this should resolve on its own in the days following treatment. Liver spots that have been treated with photodynamic phototherapy will become darker at first, and then will peel away, revealing fresh, normal skin. Our skin Doctor will determine how many treatments will be required to achieve the desired result based upon your specific concerns and skin type.
We’re pleased to offer this relatively painless procedure at Marina Dermatology. Not only is it an effective skin rejuvenation treatment, but it is also among the leading methods for removing actinic keratosis lesions from the skin – if you are concerned about any unusual growths on your skin, please contact us right away. We have two offices in Los Angeles County, both located conveniently close to Marina Del Rey.
